The verses beside it

Romans 5:3. Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
Where this verse sits
Romans 5 turns the corner from the argument of chapters 3 and 4. Justification by faith has been established. Verse 1 draws the consequence: peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Verse 2 says that through him we have access, by faith, into the grace in which we stand, and that we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Verse 3 refuses to limit the rejoicing to pleasant days. Read verses 1 through 11, through the word about Christ dying for us while we were still sinners. The peace is a changed relationship, announced before Paul ever gets to the struggle of chapter 7.
Read Romans 5Reflection
“Therefore” looks back at Abraham, at righteousness counted to the one who believes, and at Jesus handed over for our trespasses and raised for our justification. The result Paul names is peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Peace here is not a calm mood. It is the end of hostility between God and the person who has been justified. The next verses say we stand in grace, rejoice in the hope of God’s glory, and even rejoice in sufferings because of what suffering produces. Justification is the ground. Access is the open door. Anyone who quotes the peace and then hides from God has not believed the therefore.
A prayer from this verse
“Father, I live as if the case were still open and I must bring a better week before I approach You. Since You have justified me through faith, let me stand in this grace and enjoy peace with You through Jesus Christ. Teach my joy to survive suffering without denying it. Amen.”
One action: Pray for five minutes today with nothing to prove — no list of improvements, only thanks that you have peace with God through Jesus Christ.
