Bible Verse of the Day for October 15, 2026

Where this verse sits

Psalm 23 is a shepherd psalm. The opening line states the relationship that the rest of the poem unpacks: green pastures, the valley of the shadow, the table, and the house of the Lord. Read the whole psalm before you treat “I shall not want” as a promise that every desire will be supplied. The want it refuses is the want of the shepherd’s care. The verse is a place to begin a day, and the six verses after it are how you keep the beginning honest.

Reflection

When we declare 'The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want,' we are anchoring our souls in complete contentment. A shepherd provides, protects, and guides. In a world that constantly tells us we need more to be happy, this psalm invites us to rest in the sufficiency of God. If the Creator of the universe is our guide, we lack nothing of eternal value. Our needs are fully met in Him, and we can rest in His green pastures.

A prayer from this verse

“Father, thank You for being my Shepherd. Forgive me for searching for contentment in things that fail to satisfy. Guide me today in Your paths of righteousness, and help me rest in the assurance that You provide all I need. In Jesus' name, Amen.”

One action: List three things you are tempted to worry about today, and declare over each one: 'The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.'
