Where this verse sits
Paul has asked three times for a thorn in the flesh to be taken away. The answer he records is that the Lord’s grace is sufficient and that power is perfected in weakness. He does not call the thorn pleasant, and he does not pretend the request was a mistake. Read verses 7 through 10 inside the longer boast that surrounds them, so the sentence stays attached to a real prayer that was not answered in the way Paul first wanted.
Read 2 Corinthians 12Reflection
God's strength is not made perfect in our strength, but in our weakness. When we reach the end of our own ability, we create space for His grace and power to be displayed. Paul learned to glory in his weaknesses so that the power of Christ might rest upon him. Instead of hiding our limitations, we can bring them to God, knowing that His grace is fully sufficient for every struggle.
A prayer from this verse
“Lord, I bring my weaknesses, limitations, and exhaustion to You. Thank You that Your grace is sufficient for me. Let Your power rest upon me today, and be my strength in my areas of struggle. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
One action: Acknowledge one personal weakness today and pray: 'Lord, I cannot do this in my own strength. Let Your power be made perfect in my weakness here.'
